Templates Wiki

I admit it. I used to be a Wikia addict. I have over 40,000 edits on WoWWiki and thousands more on other wikis around Wikia.

...and yet, without the aid of a 12 step program, I'm finding it easier and easier to stop contributing to Wikia wikis. That's a pretty amazing thing for me, because the only wikis besides Wikia wikis that I contribute to are the occasional anonymous edit on Wikipedia and the generally template only edits I make on Ballotpedia.org.

I do have some clues why I've slowed down though:

  • I couldn't deal with the exclusionist admin attitudes at WoWWiki, so I've stopped most of my contributing there except for when I was trying to help out at WoW Answers. I may return, but WoW has definitely gotten kind of stale and WoWWiki just doesn't have the enthusiastic user base it once had.
  • I tried to help out at Help, but many of my changes got reverted or turned into drafts that never seem to become shared help for unclear reasons.
  • I helped out alot at the Community Central Forum, but Wikia staff made me feel like I was just doing free tech support for them and they were very unappreciative. You'll notice alot more questions there go unanswered. I suspect other helpers feel the same way I do.
  • I contributed many logos at the Logo Creation Wiki, but the new Oasis skin has cut the logo area in half and very little promotion is done for that wiki by Wikia, so I don't really feel like helping out there either, since it really is also just a free service for Wikia that they could do themselves.
  • And of course I've tried to help out alot here at Templates, but again Wikia's appreciation and support for this wiki is minimal at best.

I guess I'm tired of being used.

And the RTE sucks.

And the new skin sucks.

And Wikia appears to want a new set of users anyway.

I'm not gone yet, but I'm definitely starting to fade away.
