Compatibility with Wikipedia[]
Because many Wikia sites copy from Wikipedia, there is potential time-saving in using the same template name as Wikipedia does for a template that does the same thing. Wikia has simplified a few, e.g. "Tl" in WP becomes "T" here. But unless you are simplifying you should use the same name, to help minimise the number of changes Wikia users must make to pages copied from Wikipedia. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 05:00, January 1, 2010 (UTC)
- That means the parameter names should be the same too, right? --Yoshord 18:52, January 3, 2010 (UTC)
- Probably, but I'm not sure. I'm a bit of an amateur about any except the simplest templates. I'm thinking mostly about the template names used in one Wikipedia template calling another. For example,
{{Documentation}}
in a WP-sourced template will produce our very different-looking template of the same name, which it could not do if ours was differently-named. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 01:40, January 6, 2010 (UTC)
