As I mentioned on Forum:Starter Wikia - adding templates to it or changing them#, I have been kicking around an idea for a single template to replace {{SPW}} and {{Wikitemplates}} and to include some of the functionality of Wikipedia templates such as wikipedia:Template:Documentation subpage, wikipedia:Template:Template sandbox notice, and wikipedia:Template:Template test cases notice. I have finally gotten around to coding up a mockup for the template, at Template:Template metadata. This is an extremely rough draft for the template's final wording and functions, and is not usable yet - I want to hear opinions and suggestions for improvement before I condense the examples into a single, functioning template. I've started a few "seed sections" below on my current major concerns. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 20:11, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

Unless it directly links the copyed pages file history like {{wikipedia}} and {{wikitemplates}} the it does not proved the functionality NEEDED (non optional) for CC-BY-SA complaince which is the point of the templates --  Roguebfl   talk    contribs    email   14:32, September 2, 2010 (UTC)
Like Dinoguy said, it is a very rough draft. That could be easily added. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10:35 AM PST 2 Sep 2010

Name

Currently, the template is named "Template metadata" since this, I feel, is the most accurate and succinct description of the template's purpose. I am open to suggestions for other names, however; "Template metadata" is actually a pretty technical term and many people may not even know what metadata even *is*, much less make the connection here. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 20:11, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

I was thinking something like "Template attribution", but most people don't know what attribution means either. Maybe "Template origin"? -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10:34 AM PST 2 Sep 2010

Parameters

The current mockup of the template doesn't take any parameters, but when it is finished, I think it will need to take three parameters at minimum: one for the template's name on its originating wiki, one for the originating wiki's name, and one for the originating wiki's interwiki prefix (my observation is that for Wikia, this is always equivalent to the subdomain name; e.g. for Wikia Templates, the prefix and subdomain name are both "templates"; for Starter Wikia, they are "starter", etc.). Additionally, for this wiki, we need one more parameter, to take over {{SPW}}'s function - pointing out templates that are or aren't on Starter, and whether they are the same or different.

All of these parameters, with the exception of the interwiki prefix (I am not aware of any magic word which will return the interwiki prefix of a Wikia wiki; if one exists, please point it out!), can be automatically added by the documentation preload template. I am not sure, however, whether the parameters should be named, and if so, what names should be used (and if not, what order the parameters should be required in). ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 20:11, September 1, 2010 (UTC)
